Taylor and I got away this weekend for our annual daddy/daughter summer trip.  This year we didn’t go far…just across the bay.  Saturday morning we headed out to Dynamo Donuts to try maple bacon apple donuts.  I thought the donut was pretty good, Taylor didn’t share my opinion.  After getting loaded up with sugar, we headed north to Muir Woods.  For some reason we thought it would be a good idea to take a 3 mile hike…a very steep hike, lots of stairs involved!  After we finally came off the trail we grabbed a bite to eat at the cafe then made a quick detour to Muir Beach…cold!  After the beach we headed inland to check into our hotel in San Rafael.  Our hotel had a pool so after unpacking we went for a swim…Taylor is a faster swimmer than I am, yikes.  Next on the hit list was spoiling our dinner with Baskin Robbins.  They are having an MLB promotion, so we scored two Dodger mini helmets!  After ice cream we headed to the local mall for pizza and a movie.  I was afraid I wouldn’t like the new Karate Kid since I loved the original as a kid, but I was actually impressed with the movie, very entertaining.  The next day we drove back over the Golden Gate for a day at the exploratorium.  Taylor loved it!  I haven’t been there in at least 15 years, some things haven’t changed, but there are a lot of new exhibits obviously.  We had a great day and a great weekend. I love that girl.

Remembering Katie Skelly

On the 16th , we took the familiar trip down I-5, this time with sadness in our hearts given the recent news we had received of Katie’s passing.  Many family and friends poured their love and actions into making a beautiful service at the Salvation Army in Torrance.  While we certainly shared in their sorrow, we enjoyed spending time with all of the Skellys, extended family, and friends in celebrating Katie’s life.

We love and miss you Katie.

Alameda County Fair

The Baham crew hit the Alameda County Fair on Monday July 5th.  First to arrive were Taylor & I.  Taylor scored an unlimited ride bracelet…I did not since I would have thrown up on most of the rides.  Taylor & I did go on the mini coaster, ferris wheel, and bumper cars though!  I think my favorite was the bumper cars.  Wow was it hot out on the blacktop though!  I managed to survive the heat, while waiting for Taylor to go on several “spiny” rides.  Taylor played the “pop the balloons with a dart” game and won two little stuffed animals (which she eventually gave to Brooklyn and Peyton), woohoo.

The rest of the crew (Papa, Nana, Auntie, Kimberly, Brooklyn, Peyton) arrived shortly before 5pm.  It was still warm at that point, but it had cooled a bit, plus we weren’t on the blacktop, so that helped.  We stayed in the kiddy area for a bit so Brooklyn could go on a ride.  When then went in search of food and a good spot for all of us to sit down and eat.  Nana scored a table in the wine courtyard.  The table was perfect to fit all of us and we also go to enjoy the somewhat loud jazz music as well.  We all scarfed down some fair food, then Kimberly and Nana took the little ones to see the animals, and Auntie, Papa, and Taylor went to play some games.  Daddy got to save the table and relax :-)   We agreed to rendevous back at the table in about 30 minutes for desert.

After our funnel cakes and ice cream we headed back to the kiddy area for more rides.  Nana and Papa went to the amphitheater for a few minutes to catch some of the Newsboys concert.  We all packed it out of the fair around 8:45pm.  It was a great family event!

Dodger game!

Monday June 28th, the annual tradition of Taylor, Daddy, and Papa going to a Dodger vs Giants game continued. This was the first game in a three game series. The Dodgers beat the Giants Monday night 4-2, and went on to sweep the series! We arrived at the game before the gates opened. Taylor was hoping to get some autographs (especially Manny Ramirez). I choked at the price of an authentic major league baseball ($24!), but hey this was the first time Taylor asked to go early to a game to watch BP and to get autographs. She was only successful in obtaining one autograph…Reed Johnson.

The three of us had a great time at the game, and Taylor especially loved hitting both of us with the inflatable Dodger bat. The giants fans were obnoxious as always, but were silenced by Casey Blakes 2 run shot in the 6th. It was a great night! Go Dodgers!!!

First day Taylor is here for the summer so we got up and out of the house early. First we headed to Mama’s on wahington square in SF for breakfast. Then we did a touristy thing…drove down Lombard st. On our way back to Dublin we stopped at Top Dog in Berkeley to get some dogs for the BBQ tomorrow. Auntie met us there to say hi to Taylor. When then hit the Pleasanton farmers market before coming home for lunch and naps. What a great morning.

Sisters being sisters

The girls were having fun tonight together. Thought I better capture it on video to remember what it looks like when they are getting along.

Last night we headed to the Livermore Rodeo’s free family night with some new friends from MOPS. Free admission and $1 hot dogs and sodas, can’t beat that. We all had a great time, looking forward to next year, especially the cow milking event.

Brooklyn dressing up

image

Brooklyn loves dressing up, she is such a little princess. She discovered Taylor’s Belle dress we saved for so many years. Before Brooklyn was even a twinkle in Kimberly’s eye we took Taylor to Disney World for her seventh birthday. On that trip we bought her this fancy princess dress and had a wonderful time at princess character meals and shows. Brooklyn obviously has room to grow in the dress, she is only three years old! Needless to say there is a bit of a height difference compared to when Taylor was her age. I hope this dress lasts for Peyton as well, even though our little Peytey is more of a monkey than a princess.

This is the first post to the new Baham Family blog…more to come.
